Since the New York Metropolitans joined Major League Baseball in 1962 they have played second fiddle to the Yankees. The Yankees have dominated the sport for almost a century. Since 1923, no team has won more championships in professional sports than the Yankees (27). The Yankees are the toast of the town, Frank Sinatra use to say the Yankees are “king of the hill, top of the heap”. The Mets have been the “king of the hill” twice winning the World Series in ’69 and ’86.They won over the hearts of many New Yorkers with those championship teams, earning life long fans.
